Introducing Prism!

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

Prism brings the same design aesthetic to sunglasses as Ferrari brings to cars. Turning plastic, glass, and metal into sleek objects that seem to ooze sexy coolness.  These beauties are designed in the UK and produced in a family-run factory in Northern Italy, giving the product a healthy dose of La Dolce Vita. The effect is the perfect mix between modernist design and classic construction.

Fortunately, the Prism team didn’t stop with sunglasses, designing a complementary swimwear line. The swimsuits echo the sunglasses’ design drawing inspiration from the glamour of the 50s and 60s silhouettes but grounded in contemporary minimalism. They were created with a woman’s body in mind, including construction details such as invisible underwire, padded cups, and detachable straps. Check out the images below for a good time!

We will be showing the collection in Miami at Salon Allure July 21st- 24th. Please contact Jessicah@fiftytwoshowroom.com for inquiries and appointments

Waiting for the Sun on Moda Operandi

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Moda Operandi is the baddest kid on the block. It is the dream team of the fashion world, with such talents as Lauren Santo-Domingo and Taylor Tomasi-Hill. These ladies have taste, offering the best of the collections on their e-commerce site way before they hit the stores. When Moda Operandi gives its blessing to a fashion line, you know its gotta be good.

The W/Sun team draws on classic styles for their designs, but uses rosewood and bamboo as opposed to the traditional metal and plastic. The wood ads character and has the unique benefit of improving with age by responding to the user’s wear. Of course, the fact that they are young cute french boys doesn’t hurt either.

One of our favorites is the 19.6Gs style, inspired by the iconic glasses of John Lennon. These guys are perfect for the upcoming festival season and radiate 1960s cool. Made from Rosewood, they are available in vintage black and natural and feature UV400 protection. Check them out below.

Moda Operandi is offering a preview and opportunity to buy the collection. But act quickly, it’s only available until Wednesday May 2nd at 11pm, that’s just 2 days!

The Etiquette of Mad Men

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

John Slattery in Etiquette as featured in GQ

What makes Mad Men look so damn good? What begins with a nice slim fitting suit is taken to the next level with classic menswear accessories that complete the look and make a man into a mad man. Ties, pocket squares, and socks add splashes of color that interrupt the darkness of a suit and allow a little more creative expression.

George Lois, the original Mad Man

So when the editors of GQ were putting together a feature on John Slattery, better known as Roger Sterling, they turned to Etiquette socks for that extra pop. Every pair of socks is made in Italy and boasts the best materials and construction for the perfect timeless piece.  So next time you want to look like a Mad Men, head over to Scoop and check out the collection.

Ten Over Six: Where Art Meets Fashion

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

Our latest trip to Ten Over Six in L.A. is leaving us feeling inspired. The store has the feel of a gallery more than a retail store. The stark white space comes alive with products meant to evoke beauty, “whether  it’s Fashion to be worn, Art to be loved, Home Design to be lived with, Beauty to uplift, or Music/ Books/ Films to inspire.” The diverse selection of goods, all with the same curatorial concept of exploring the conversation between design disciplines, create an atmosphere of play and discovery.

Not content with just selling, Ten Over Six has partnered with some of the most exciting designers in the industry, such as Vena Cava, Lizzie Fortunado, and LA Eyeworks to name a few. They’ve even extended their reach into home designs with Future Perfect, a record label with Mexican Summer, and Lighting Design with Lindsey Adelman.

Of course, here at Fiftytwo, we are most interested in the clothes. With its brand collection boasting such labels as A.P.C, Band of Outsiders, Alexander Wang, and Karen Walker among others, Ten Over Six has positioned itself on the vanguard of fashion. Look out for our very own Jaunt collection, arriving in the store for Fall 2012. Best of all, if you can’t make it to L.A. you can shop online here!

Jaunt FW 2012

Monday, April 9th, 2012

If you ever find yourself at the showroom around 4pm, you might be lucky enough to hear the little pitter patter of feet and baby cries of excitment in broken German and Portugese. Undoubtedly, that little baby (named Luna) will be followed by her beautiful mother, Ana Lerario-Geller, who is more often than not, shimmering in her FW2012 Jaunt collection. After exploring a more formal ready to wear collection with Lerario Beatriz, Ana decided to transition into a more casual relaxed collection to fit in her with her lifestyle as a busy mother.

In the lookbook, as seen below, the looks are silhouetted against a background of oxblood and sand. Some of the pieces are covered in sequins of different sizes evoking aquatic phosphorescents with their green and silver reflections. Other looks use Ikat prints and neckline embellishments, calling to mind foreign lands and traditional crafts. Together, they create an image of wanderlust, a look that calls on us to celebrate fantasy and leave behind reality.

Robert Geller does West Coast Style with a new Fred Segal Capsule Collection

Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

Everybody loves surfers’ style. You know, the laid-back, effortlessly cool, I-just-got-off-the-beach look. Robert Geller’s four-piece capsule collection with Fred Segal man channels the west coast chic with a fade-dyed hoodie, denim rider jacket, neon-bright japanese denim, and a reversible printed sleeveless tee. Best of all, this collection would look as good on the streets of New York as it does on the boardwalks of Los Angeles.

How to find Inspiration in Unlikely Places: An Antipodium Lesson

Monday, March 5th, 2012

Geoffrey J Finch, the creative director for the London-based label, Antipodium has a design sensibility that subverts the classics and imbues them with a fresh quirkiness. In an in-depth interview with Susie Lau of Style Bubble for Barney’s The Window, he discusses his design process.

For his spring collection, now in stores, Finch found inspiration in Woody Allen’s family drama Interiors, about an artistically-oriented family that is falling apart. The translation is easily seen in his inspiration boards (check it out below), as the most mundane household activities become loaded with meaning. For Antipodium, the thought process expresses itself in the clothes.  As Susie says, “That’s the kind of person who wears Antipodium—they’re interested in their clothes, but they’re also interested in a little story behind it.”

More recently, Finch presented his Fall 2012 collection at London Fashion Week, where he drew inspiration from an unlikely source- Vermin. But in this case, vermin does not mean creepy crawly maggots. Instead, the collection focuses on the “natural habitat of an outsider,” particularly through the lens of Finch’s favorite source of inspiration, his East London neighborhood.

Using a palette of “camel, tobacco, lilac and nude with sharp accents of verdant green and fish-counter blue”, sports inspired shapes, and a mix of fabrics from jersey to Mohair, this Fall 2012 collection embodies “clashes of class and culture, architecture and nature.” Continuing to collaborate with other artists, Finch commissioned two artists to produce exclusive prints for this fall collection, as he did with his Spring 2012 collaboration with printmaker Miriam Ivanoff.

Clube Bossa launches their new website and we love it

Monday, February 27th, 2012

When Clube Bossa launched its new website and blog on Friday, they chose to begin with vintage photographs of the Carnival in Rio. The photos capture the vivacity of Rio, with everyone dancing and singing and having a good time. Not to mention, of course, the beautiful women. While Clube Bossa’s designs are more restrained and avant-garde, they still capture the energy of a Brazilian Carnival. Talk about the perfect blog beginning.

The new website offers beautiful images of Guilherme Vieira’s designs of both the couture and resort collections. The website now looks as luxurious as the garments themselves.

Robert Geller’s Impossibly Cool Fall 2012 Collection

Monday, February 13th, 2012

Robert Geller’s Collection for Fall 2012 represents an excercise in The Impossible Cool, as celebrated on the blog with the same name. The impossbly cool man is one who is polished but not perfect, who celebrates the classic cut but with a modern twist, and who always, always makes it look good.

Against the backdrop of a dirt runway, Geller showed his collection of punk inspired classic british tailoring. The clothes had an emphasis on layering and volume with capelets draped over elongated shirts and raincoats that followed an a-line. Above all, he captured the rugged put-togetherness of The Impossible Cool.
