Happy “Dia dos Namorados”

Tuesday, June 12th, 2012

Today is Valentine’s Day in Brazil, known in Portugese as Dia dos Namorados. So grab your guy or girl, look into their eyes, and say it with me “Te Amo”. Fiftytwo Showroom is honoring the day by showing some love to our favorite Brazilian brands. So pack your bags because we are taking a trip south.

Clube Bossa: Clube Bossa has made a name for itself with its luxurious swimwear collection. With their original prints and expert draping techniques, Clube Bossa has brought fashion back to the beach.

Jo De Mer: Jo de Mer somehow bottles up a day a la playa in all of her bikinis. Her collection is the perfect combination of surf, sand, and sexy, putting one on makes you feel like the girl from Ipanema.

Serpui Marie:  Whether it’s paying homage to the sea with her mother of pearl line, or to the forests with her bamboo clutches, Serpui Marie finds inspiration for her handbag line all around Brazil. But surf or turf, Serpui’s handbags bring a touch of elegance to everyone who wears them.

Osklen: Finally, one for the boys and girls. This line defines cool for both sexes with its luxury sportswear, accessories, and footwear lines. Vibrant colors and prints add an edge to the athletic inspired looks from this Brazilian favorite.

Adriana Degreas: Back to what Brazil does best. Bikinis. It’s no accident that it’s the Gisele’s native country. Fun prints and a touch of luxury sets this line apart from the pack.

Fiona Paxton Featured in Vogue Turkey

We’ll admit it, we have a severe case of wanderlust. South America? Check. Africa? We’re there. India? When’s the flight. While an around the world trip might be a bit out of budget (okay, a lot), with Fiona Paxton’s designs we can at least look like we’ve trotted the globe.

Fiona Paxton featured in Marie Claire

The beauty of Paxton’s designs is her ability to combine new silhouettes with traditional beading and metalwork patterns. Fiona Paxton was raised in punk-era Britain but traveled extensively through India, drawing upon non-western colors and geometries. While globalization might have its problems, the world has certainly benefited from Paxton’s international take on design.

Paxton designs all of her pieces in the U.K. using various combinations of leather, beading, and crystals. The result is a superb product and one that is sure to become your new favorite jewelry collection. Be sure to pick up a piece, available at SAKS or at Scoop.

Eye Spy Wood

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

Fresh, innovative and new to Fiftytwo Showroom is the latest collection “SS-DOUZE” from Waiting For the Sun.  Created by a group of three friends, this unique and modern European based sunglasses brand reinvents classic vintage aesthetic with modern Parisian sophistication. These unisex frames are 100% handcrafted from Rose wood and bamboo, and best of all- eco-friendly!

Julien Tual, Antoine Mocquard and Alexandre Rabineau make up the trio behind the brand.  They refer to themselves as “modern people” who are aware of their social responsibility to take care of the world. Opting to use all renewable materials that, unlike petrol-based plastic (traditionally used in sunglasses), leave less of a trace on the environment.  Although being eco friendly is important to the designers, it is not the only motivation behind the collection. Choosing to work  with wood for its interesting characteristics including its ability to change color with perspiration and sunlight has introduced a natural, lightweight and innovative concept.

As featured in Nylon’s Feb 2012 issue pictured above. They come in a recycled cardboard packaging; wrapped in a limited edition foulard and signed by a contemporary artist. We’re always thrilled to stand behind a brand that’s environmentally conscious and so should you! For a closer look, check it out here.

Introducing C. Chauchat x Blind Barber: A Collaboration Fit to be “Tied”

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

New York, NY — The Blind Barber, New York City’s first barbershop/vintage cocktail parlor, and C. Chauchat, the men’s handcrafted accessory brand, have collaborated on a limited-edition tie for the summer season.  Both brands share an East Village zip code and a passion for the time-honored traditions of being a man, from the perfect shave to the thoughtfully chosen accessory.

Utilizing C. Chaucat’s signautre technique of layering sheer fabric over opaque prints, the C. Chauchat x Blind Barber tie has the texture of a favorite heather gray sweatshirt on the front, with muted red and blue stripes inspiried by a traditional barber pole on the back.  Dapper enough for work and casual enough for play, the C. Chauchat x Blind Barber tie should be a man’s punctuation mark in his personal style statement.

Based in New York City, C. Chauchat is a collaboration between designer Curie Choi and Beverly Liang and was born from a mutual appreciation for classic, high-quality garments.  Having apprenticed under Isabel Toledo, Choi brings her experience with using the finest fabrics and and hand-tailoring techniques.  They most recently worked with Robert Geller to create a custom line of accessories for his FW 2011 collection.

The Blind Barber, located on East 10th Stree across from Tompkins Square Park, is co-owned by Jeff Laub, Joshua Boyd and Adam Kirsch.  Recently named one of the country’s top barbershops by both Travel and Leisure and Maxim magazines, the Blind Barber is the ultimate grooming destination, offering haircuts and shaves in the front with a full-service “speakeasy” parlor hidden in back.

The C. Chauchat x Blind Barber tie is availible beginning June 22nd exclusively at the C. Chauchat website or at The Blind Barber for $160.

Heutchy Shoes

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

Here at Fiftytwo we are all excited about the addition of Heutchy shoes to our designer lineup! Heutchy is the brainchild of New York based designer Wells Stellberger, who created the line in order to fill a gap the he saw in the men’s footwear market. The goal was to produce shoes of impeccable quality, made with the finest materials all without breaking the bank. Heutchy sources Italian leathers and Japanese canvas to construct shoes that, according to Stellberger, are forward in concept but lacking pretense. The shoes are manufactured in Portugal and have garnered a following for their simple shapes, high level of craftsmanship, and affordable price tag.
