A Jaunt-y Shoot

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

On a chilly Sunday morning, as most people slept off their Saturday evening shenanigans, the fifth floor of 52 Walker Street was wide awake and ready for work. Around 8 AM, photographers, hairstylists, make-up artists, and one model filed into Fiftytwo for the Jaunt photo shoot. As sets and lighting were adjusted and the model was dressed and styled, designer and Fiftytwo founder Ana Lerario quietly oversaw the day’s production. The garments in her F/W ’11 collection featured Jaunt’s signature edgy wear-ability. As the model posed and pranced around the set, it was easy to see how these intricately embellished t-shirts and flowing tops were not only beautiful, but practical components of one’s everyday wardrobe.

An arsenal of supplies...

...and an army to use them!

Lighting, hair, styling: everything just right.

Poolside Couture

Friday, February 18th, 2011

It’s an unusually warm February day here in NYC, and it seems like a happy coincidence that Brazilian swimwear line Clube Bossa is available today on Net-a-Porter.  The Resort 2011 season marks the brand’s first official launch in the US. For those of you unfamiliar with this collection of luxurious suits and cover ups, Clube Bossa was founded in 2006 by Brazilian designer Guilherme Vieira.  Clube Bossa is couture for the world of swimwear: each piece is handmade and takes several days for completion.  We love the classic pleating on the one pieces, and don’t even get us started on the elegant maxi dress cover up (talk about a day to evening look!). So while it may not be warm enough to hit the beach quite yet, it’s definitely warm enough for some online shopping!

Runway CSI, featuring Robert Geller

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

The whirlwind fashion show process is always a wonder. Meticulous attention to detail is a must, and countless hours of hard work are spent in preparation for the big event. Then, with a brisk strut and flash of a camera, the show ends. The Robert Geller Fall 2011 show was no exception to the hustle and bustle of preparations, and we managed to sneak in and snap a few shots of what goes on during those crucial days before the show. Castings, fittings, and tedious preparations: every model’s look was laid out, labeled, photographed and documented. It was equivocal to a fashion crime scene: no accessory was left unexamined and no garment was left unturned.  In the end, it all equated to an indescribable experience. On Friday night, as the garments traveled down the runway and the music blared on, an energy filled the venue, and (as always) it was worth the work.

A Valentine’s Birthday

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

Growing up, Valentine’s day ranked as a favorite holiday for the members of the Fiftytwo team. The excitement during the days leading up to it, making and sharing valentines, school parties, secret crushes, and feasting on sweets!

Yesterday we got to do just that thanks to the boys at Robert Geller. With a surprise delivery of delicious cupcakes from Robicelli’s, our childhood nostalgia was refreshed. Plus we were able to tie in a mini Birthday party, candle and all, for our favorite Sales Director, Catherine!

Thanks guys and Happy Birthday Catherine! XOXO

A nice surprise...

Mmm cupcakes!

Make a wish!

Pope.

Friday, February 11th, 2011

Say a prayer if you want, but this isn’t the head of the church we’re talking about here.  This is Pope, a label launched by designer Dorothy Shuford Lanier in 2009.  After the success of her label Dosty, Lanier took a brief hiatus from fashion to spend time with her family. In two years time, she was back with Pope, a collection devoted to clean lines, wearability, and versatility. We like how the simple, classic dress silhouettes pop with the infusion of bright neon colors. Simple yet statement-making.  Check out this preview from Pope’s F/W 2011 collection…

Model Men

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

In preparation for Fashion Week, models prowl the streets of New York while designers quickly snatch them up.  We caught some of this predatory action here at Fiftytwo, as gorgeous men filed in all day Friday for the J. Sabatino casting.

It’s a full time job: these guys looked good, even as we snapped some photos on their way out.

Inspired.

Friday, February 4th, 2011

Designer Yoon Chang of Whistle & Flute shares what roused her inspiration for the F/W 2011 collection.

“Normally, I’m mostly inspired by proportion and fabric. I’m not one to use a theme to create a collection,” Chang begins. “But this season, the fabrics willed a story. I think it was the faux badger fur that did it!” She laughs.

“My inspirational woman is this restless shepherdess in the middle of nowhere in England,” Chang further explains. She passes her time away listening to the jam, ska music and soul records willing her life to transform itself into a more glamorous and wild one. So she customizes and cobbles together her fantasy wardrobe and runs away to London to live the life in a metropolis.”

“A little insane, right?” she jokes, “but you’ll get it when you see the pieces-it has a mod and boho feeling to it.”

Wrapped up in Moio

Friday, February 4th, 2011

Chilly necks, fear not: the scarf trend continues on, and Moio is prepared. Created by French designers, friends, and fashionistas Monia and Ioana, Moio is a unique collection of scarves that combines modern prints with high-end embellishments.  The bright colors, fringe details, studding, and eyelets are girly-girl cute with a rock’n’roll edge.  The best thing about Moio scarves? Their versatility.  Most styles are reversible, so they can be worn and styled for many different looks.  Voila! One scarf has become three.

Once merely a winter necessity, scarves have become a fashion staple and wardrobe essential. This easy-to-wear accessory is great for layering, and can change the look of almost any outfit. Not sure how to wear your Moio scarf? Here are some style ideas to get you started:

C’est la mode.

A Cat Among the Ermines

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

If the title of this collection doesn’t catch your attention, the flowing fabrics and ‘70s-inspired aesthetic of these garments certainly will.  This is “A cat among the ermines,” camilla norrback’s A/W 2011 collection named in regards to “coming to peace with standing out– to being the cat among the ermines.”

While we may not necessarily understand what it’s like to be a feline amidst weasels, we are surely able to grasp the sense of wearable elegance that Norrback infuses through design details such as bows, flowing fabrics, draped sleeves, and low backs.  We’re also enjoying the rich accent colors of autumn yellow, tartan green and rust that are combined with textured materials such as velvet, bamboo, and alpaca.

Aside from its distinctive title, what really makes this collection unique is Norrback’s dedication to what she calls “Ecoluxury”—a term she coined in reference to designs that are both beautiful and luxurious, but also smart and sustainable. We love, for example, how this collection utilizes organic cotton soy bean fiber, recycled polyester, and naturally tanned leather to create charming, yet durable pieces.

We think this menswear-inspired look is ultra feminine: a playful bow-embellished blouse paired with a rust-colored coat creates a flirtatious look.

A tartan green velour jumpsuit? We find this unexpected yet somehow, it works!
