Richard Chai is an old old friend of Fiftytwo. Our roots go way back. Back before the showroom existed, back before a man with the middle initial W was in the White House, even back before the millenium.
In fact, it began at March Jacobs. Richard Chai was the design director there, Ana Beatriz Leraro (the future founder of Fiftytwo) worked with him at the line, and Robert Geller interned with the pair. Quite a team! Several years later, when Leraro and Geller were later married, Chai designed a custom lace and silk wedding dress for the occasion.
So when Ana went on to found Fiftytwo Showroom, Richard Chai was with her from the beginning, showing his eponymous line. Several years later, he’s returned with his Love line, and we couldn’t be happier.
His most recent Resort lookbook was inspired by a pair of shoes, sneakers that is. As Style.com writes, “Richard Chai recently picked up some Nike trainers in an attempt to jump-start his cardio reginmen but liked wearing them around the studio so much that he ended up buying another pair just for workouts, and style each Resort look with his favorite kicks.” The shoes go perfectly with his athletically infused collection that features slouchy jerseys and track-suit inspired trousers set against tailored blazers and vibrant poppy prints.
