Waiting for the Sun on Moda Operandi

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Moda Operandi is the baddest kid on the block. It is the dream team of the fashion world, with such talents as Lauren Santo-Domingo and Taylor Tomasi-Hill. These ladies have taste, offering the best of the collections on their e-commerce site way before they hit the stores. When Moda Operandi gives its blessing to a fashion line, you know its gotta be good.

The W/Sun team draws on classic styles for their designs, but uses rosewood and bamboo as opposed to the traditional metal and plastic. The wood ads character and has the unique benefit of improving with age by responding to the user’s wear. Of course, the fact that they are young cute french boys doesn’t hurt either.

One of our favorites is the 19.6Gs style, inspired by the iconic glasses of John Lennon. These guys are perfect for the upcoming festival season and radiate 1960s cool. Made from Rosewood, they are available in vintage black and natural and feature UV400 protection. Check them out below.

Moda Operandi is offering a preview and opportunity to buy the collection. But act quickly, it’s only available until Wednesday May 2nd at 11pm, that’s just 2 days!

Ten Over Six: Where Art Meets Fashion

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

Our latest trip to Ten Over Six in L.A. is leaving us feeling inspired. The store has the feel of a gallery more than a retail store. The stark white space comes alive with products meant to evoke beauty, “whether  it’s Fashion to be worn, Art to be loved, Home Design to be lived with, Beauty to uplift, or Music/ Books/ Films to inspire.” The diverse selection of goods, all with the same curatorial concept of exploring the conversation between design disciplines, create an atmosphere of play and discovery.

Not content with just selling, Ten Over Six has partnered with some of the most exciting designers in the industry, such as Vena Cava, Lizzie Fortunado, and LA Eyeworks to name a few. They’ve even extended their reach into home designs with Future Perfect, a record label with Mexican Summer, and Lighting Design with Lindsey Adelman.

Of course, here at Fiftytwo, we are most interested in the clothes. With its brand collection boasting such labels as A.P.C, Band of Outsiders, Alexander Wang, and Karen Walker among others, Ten Over Six has positioned itself on the vanguard of fashion. Look out for our very own Jaunt collection, arriving in the store for Fall 2012. Best of all, if you can’t make it to L.A. you can shop online here!

Store of the Week: Totokaelo

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Totokaelo (TOH-toh-KYE-oh) began in 2003 as a small shop in the Fremont area of Seattle but has quickly expanded to include two shops and an expansive online community. Their online store was created with the intention that it would be more than just a place to shop. By allowing ample space for comments and personal profiles, it also acts as a forum for like-minded fashion enthusiasts. Users have come to trust one another’s opinions on everything from fashion to music to vacation advice, which may seem odd, but if you think about it makes complete sense. If you know that someone has the same taste in wardrobe as you, it is probable that you can trust their taste in other areas, whether that be a new band or a boutique hotel and whether they live in the same city as you or halfway across the world. The lines they carry include Chloe, A.P.C.,  Rick Owens, Costume National and Fiftytwo’s own E.M. Noir among many others.

Osklen

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

Osklen has been busy popping up everywhere lately. Today, their store was featured on Refinery29′s rundown of the best swimwear boutiques in New York. Noting not only that their swimsuits are effortlessly sexy, but that they are also made using sustainable materials and eco-friendly practices. What with all this dreary weather you may not feel inspired to strip down to a swimsuit just yet, but we suggest heading to Osklen now to snatch up the perfect beach-ready outfit. That way you can relax by the pool as soon as the sun reappears, while everyone else scrambles to find a bikini half as nice as yours. Click here to read what Refinery29 has to say.

Their trainers also made an appearance in Wallpaper magazine’s June 2011 issue, complementing the sleek but earthy design of the featured house perfectly.

Store of the Week: TASK

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

There are so many amazing stores out there it’s easy to get overwhelmed.  No need to stress though, every week we will bring you a new blog-worthy store so you won’t miss out on what the city has to offer.

Our first? TASK in Brooklyn.

Whether you are searching for the perfect gift, a little something to brighten up your apartment, or a new outfit, TASK has it all. Not only that, but anything you come home with will be carefully chosen for its simplicity, beauty and lasting aesthetic. Shopping here can leave you feeling like a bit of a world traveler, as they have products from all around the globe.

They recently welcomed Fiftytwo’s very own Jaunt, by Ana Lerario-Geller, which couldn’t be a better fit for the stores worldly, timeless feel.

They also happen to be across from one of our favorite chocolate shops Mast Brothers (we understand, shopping can be tiring… a chocolate pick me up is essential).
